Campaigners say it is ‘inconceivable’ that Oireachtas members are not receiving gifts

Only one TD or senator has declared receiving a gift since the last general election in 2020. Transparency campaigners say it is “inconceivable” politicians are not receiving gifts, but a lack of strong ethics rules means there is little regulation or transparency on the issue.

In the UK, Keir Starmer’s Labour government has been under fire after MPs, including Mr Starmer, made declarations revealing the receipt of tens of thousands of pounds worth of football and concert tickets along with clothing financed by a wealthy donor.
