The discovery was made at the gig in the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin, on August 24.

After the man found the injured ferret, he decided to take it home and put it in the care of the DSPCA the following day.

The ferret, now named Bonkers, is being monitored by the Small Animals and Exotics Manager, Caroline Mothersill.

“It’s a bit of a strange story, but he came to us on Sunday after being discovered at the James Blunt concert,” she said.

“The man who found him saw that he was badly injured and brought him home in the taxi. I’m not sure whether it was inside or outside the concert.

“It looks like he was most likely attacked by some kind of animal, and he had quite broken-up teeth, but he is getting a lot of care and will receive two injections today,” she added.

The DSPCA only announced the opening of their new Small Animal and Exotics House at its shelter in Rathfarnham, Dublin, back in July.

Some of the animals within the shelter include rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other exotic animals.

While not the most common pet, Ms Mothersill said that Bonkers is the seventh stray ferret they’ve encountered.

“They have a strong smell, which a lot of people don’t like in their house, but some people don’t mind it, and they can make brilliant pets as they’re a bit like a mix of a cat and a dog,” she said.

“They require a lot of care and attention, and we haven’t had an issue finding homes for them so far.

“We recently had another ferret, named Slinky, which was adopted by a lady who had wanted a ferret for years and had done a lot of research on them as pets.

“We’ve been lucky to have only had quite friendly ferrets in so far.”

Sharing a video of the ferret on their social media, the DSPCA said: “This little ferret was found as a stray with a bad puncture wound on his neck, along with multiple smaller wounds surrounding it.

“He was sedated, and the wound was cleaned and is now being cared for by Caroline, our Small Animals & Exotics Manager.

“He is just the sweetest little thing and has been named Bonkers. He’s incredibly sociable and very well-handled.”
