Ireland’s success in reaping a huge taxation windfall from US pharma giants has once again come under the spotlight in Washington DC with a new proposal to force big drug firms to pay more tax in America.

Influential economist — and former Biden administration official — Brad Setser has hit out at what he claims is zero tax paid in the US by a number of major drug ­manufacturers, all of which have substantial operations in Ireland.
