MAJOR Irish airports have shared a fresh update as services back operating as normal amid heavy snow – despite cancellations this weekend.
Dublin Airport have also issued a warning that flights could see delays due to severe weather conditions abroad.
Airports across the UK and Ireland reported flight cancellations and delays as the arctic air blast hit but are “operating as normal” this morning.
Dublin Airport confirmed they are “fully open” this morning despite impacts in several UK and European airports.
They said that due to closures abroad, some flights may remain impacted today.
Dublin Airport bosses said: “Some airports in the UK and Europe continue to be impacted by bad weather conditions, which may impact on flight schedules today and result in some flight delays.
“As always, passengers should check with their airline directly for updates regarding their specific flight.
“Those travelling to the airport this morning should allow plenty of time to get to and from the airport.”
TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS
Elsewhere in Shannon Airport, they too remain “fully operational” but have warned over potential flight delays.
They said: “We are fully operational again today, with some delays to early morning departures so far.
“For the latest flight information, please check with your airline and allow extra time for your journey to the airport as road conditions continue to be challenging.”
As of yesterday afternoon, Cork Airport confirmed they will be operating as normal following clearance of snow from the runway.
They said in their latest update: “Our snow and ice team has completed the clearance of snow from our main runway, and it is now operational.
“Our teams will continue to monitor the conditions throughout the evening.
“Passengers seeking flight information should refer to their airline website/mobile app for the most up-to-date flight information.”
Belfast International Airport is also seeing knock on effects of UK airport closures.
They said last night: “Knock on delays and cancellations can be expected today due to weather conditions across the UK.
“If you are due to fly today or tomorrow please check the latest status of your flight with your airline.
“Take extra care when travelling on the roads as ice warning in effect.”
UK AIRPORT CLOSURES
This comes as travel disruption in the UK is likely to have adverse impacts on flights across Ireland.
The UK Met Office has issued more than 60 flood warnings and 260 flood alerts issued.
Manchester Airport closed both its runways due to “heavy snow” just before 7am resulting in delays, cancellations and diversions.
The airport later announced that teams were able to clear the runways but “some departures and arrivals may still experience delays”.
Manchester Airport added on X: “Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra time for your journey today.
“We would like to thank our teams for their hard work in getting the runways operational again.”
Meanwhile flights travelling into Leeds Bradford Airport were diverted overnight.
A statement from Leeds Bradford Airport said: “Our teams have been working overnight to clear the runway.
“Most of last night’s arrivals were diverted, our airline partners need to reposition aircraft and crew back to LBA before resuming today’s flight schedule.
“Disruption to today’s (Monday, 6 January) flights is expected. Please check with your airline for the latest updates and revised departure timings before traveling to LBA.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Liverpool John Lennon airport reopened its runway on Sunday evening.
