AMATUER Irish golfer Liam Nolan has booked a spot in the final major of the season.

The final qualifying events for The 152nd Open at Royal Troon took place on today at four renowned venues: Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, and West Lancashire.

Each venue hosted 72 players competing over 36 holes for one of the 16 available spots in the championship.

The Galway star Walker Cup star carded rounds of 69 and 70 for a total of -5 at Dundonald Links in Irvine, Troon.

A massive par save for Nolan on the final hole at Dundonald Links was vital as he was in trouble off the tee.

Nolan, who just finished an engineering degree in April, expressed his delight after the event.

He said: “It’s incredible I can’t wrap my head around it.

“I can’t believe I made that par putt on the last.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to play in my first major, and I can’t wait for it now.

“To play in a major is the pinnacle in the world of golf, to play in one with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods – all the best players in the world – it’s as good as it gets.”

GMAC’s LIV Golf pal Sergio Garcia also missed out on a place at West Lancashire.

The Spaniard agonisingly finished just two-strokes outside the top-4 and will now make his 100th major appearance at next year’s Masters.

The 152nd Open Championship will be held at Royal Troon Golf Club in South Ayrshire, Scotland, from July 14 to 21, 2024.

This marks the 10th time Royal Troon will host the event, with its last hosting in 2016 when Henrik Stenson won in a memorable duel against Phil Mickelson.
