EXTRA trains have been announced ahead of a big event over the August bank holiday weekend – but there’s a warning for passengers.

Iarnord Eireann has confirmed more services for the Bray Air Show from Saturday, August 3, to Monday, August 5.

The decision was made to ensure more people can access the Bray Air Display Show, which takes place over the bank holiday weekend.

It also has the largest public movement on the DART network outside commuting.

Trains will run on revised timetables – and people are being warned to book their tickets in advance, particularly at busiest times.

A number of works are set to take place over the weekend, affecting Northern Commuter and Enterprise from Malahide to Drogheda to track renewal from Saturday, August 3, to Monday, August 5.

And services will be replaced by bus transfers to the full route.

No trains will operate between Malahide and Drogheda/Dundalk – a limited substitute bus service is set to operate on two routes between Drogheda, Balbriggan, Donabate and Connolly, and Skerries, Rush and Lusk, and Connolly.

Passengers travelling to and from the Bray Air Display Show or for other purposes by train on Saturday, August 3, are advised to plan their travel in advance.

They are being advised to travel early if attending the show and allow extra time for their journey.

A high number of passengers disembarking is expected, which can result in some delays.

It is highly recommended that passengers commence their journey by 11am as southbound services are set to be extremely busy.

Those not attending the Bray Air Display Show are advised to travel away from the event times.

Extra DARTs will operate before and after the event, and additional staff will be present across the DART network to assist customers and manage capacity.

Bikes will not be allowed on board DART and Commuter services on these dates to maximise capacity.

Passengers are advised to check train and commuter services timetables before travelling over the Bank Holiday weekend at the Iarnord Eireann website or app.

Meanwhile, the DART is celebrating a major milestone after turning 40.

And Irish Rail has unveiled a specially commissioned DART to mark the “iconic” Dublin train’s ruby anniversary.

The decked-out train swaps the iconic green exterior for a collage of momentous events that took place in the capital since the first DART journey on July 23, 1984.

Bosco, the Millennium milk bottle, and marriage equality are some of the events the Little Museum of Dublin chose to feature on the anniversary DART.

Since beginning to operate in 1984, the DART has become a crucial element of travel across Dubin’s coast – bringing passengers from Howth Head to Greystones, Co Wicklow.

The Dublin Area Rapid Transit has helped 670million passengers on their commute since it came into service – with 90,000 services now taking place daily.
