An Irish teenager was fighting for his life this afternoon after a near-drowning at a hotel pool in Mallorca.
The 16-year-old was said to be “very serious” when he was rushed to hospital from the scene.
He is understood to have been in cardiac arrest when lifeguards pulled him out of the water and began to resuscitate him before emergency medical responders took after when they arrived.
The alarm was raised around 2pm this afternoon. The drama happened at an all-inclusive hotel called Globales Bouganvilla in Sa Coma in eastern Majorca, near to the Love Island villa.
A well-placed source said: “He was very serious when he was taken to hospital.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear this afternoon.
No-one could be reached at Manacor Hospital where the young holidaymaker has been taken.
In June 2022, a six-year-old boy from north Belfast died following a pool incident while he was on holiday in Majorca.
Corey Aughey was treated in intensive care at a hospital in the island capital Palma for three days before losing his fight for life.
He had also been staying at a hotel in Sa Coma which was not named at the time.
The Aughey family had only touched down in Majorca a few hours before the tragedy struck.
