Conor McManus’ frustrating run of injuries has continued with the Monaghan legend likely to miss the rest of the club season with Clontibret after suffering a serious hand injury.

There is huge doubt about whether McManus, who turns 37 in November, will return for the Farney men next year with many expecting him to call time on his memorable county career after being hampered by injury in recent seasons.

This latest setback is a particularly tough pill to swallow, however, as the three-time All-Star forward was forced to sit out Clontibret’s Monaghan SFC victory over Killany last weekend.

McManus was donning a heavily-bandaged hand as he nurses an injury that has proven to be much worse than first though, as Clontibret manager Paul McCartan confirmed.

“We’ve lost ‘Mansy’ with a serious injury, the panel is well stretched at the minute,” McCartan told Northern Sound. “It’s a wee bit more serious (than we thought). He’s probably going to be pretty long term at this minute in time. It’s probably looking like the season is over for Conor”.

With McManus’ county future up in the air and his clubmate Vinny Corey stepping away from his role as Monaghan boss after two seasons, it looks like a tough period of transition could be coming for the Ulster side after a disappointing 2024 where they lost their long-held Division 1 League status.
