James Madden of Dublin back in 2017

James Madden is to return to Ireland after a six-year AFL career with Brisbane Lions, putting him in line for potential inclusion with the Dublin footballers.

Madden, whose club were crowned AFL Premiership champions with an emphatic Grand Final win over Sydney Swans last weekend, was a Leinster minor winner with Dublin in 2017 and is now in his mid 20s.

The Ballyboden St Enda’s man has told Brisbane of his intention to return to Dublin.

As a defender with the Lions renowned for his pace, Madden played 13 games in six years. He was not part of the Grand Final squad last weekend however. Brisbane have wished Madden well in his pursuit of a Gaelic football career which could include a connection with Dessie Farrell’s Dublin in time to come.
