The late John O’Mahony will be remembered in his native Ballaghaderreen on Friday next during the town’s art festival.
The event will involve former Dublin GAA manager Jim Gavin being interviewed by retired RTE journalist Sean O’Rourke,
Prior to his death John O’Mahony had been planning the event. Originally Gavin was due to be interviewed by RTE’s retired Northern Editor Tommie Gorman but sadly he passed away a couple of weeks before O’Mahony.
The event will take place in St Nathy’s College at 7.30pm where O’Mahony was a teacher for many years and also trained the college’s football teams.
Last spring John invited Jim Gavin, who managed Dublin to win six All-Ireland titles including the five-in-row and who is now chairman of the football review committee, to appear at the festival. The theme of the interview will be ‘Saving Gaelic Football.”
Despite the double whammy suffered by the O’Mahony family with the deaths of John and Tommie, they were determined that the ‘Saving Gaelic Football’ event went ahead as planned.
