The pair took over in 2020 from Mickey Harte, previously the only person to manage Tyrone to a senior All-Ireland in their history, and claimed the county’s fourth Sam Maguire triumph in their first season, beating Kerry and Mayo en route.

There had been rumours about a potential departure around Tyrone last weekend.

“They’ve simply made wonderful history for us, time and again, in place after place, and in so many ways,” said Tyrone chairman Martin Sludden in a statement confirming the news.

“Always with style, class, dignity and honour. And, very remarkably in the world we’re now in, always as total volunteers to the Tyrone GAA cause.”

Tyrone have experienced a lean three years since then, struggling to recapture their 2021 form. A quarter-final was as far as they went towards winning another All-Ireland – in 2023, when they lost heavily to Kerry.

Logan suffered a stroke in February of this year and missed a large part of Tyrone’s season, although he was back on the line when it ended against Roscommon in the preliminary quarter-final.

“Brian’s and Feargal’s contributions to Tyrone GAA are just monumental,” Tyrone County Secretary Michael Kerr insisted.

“Too often we focus on what’ people achieve. But in the broader picture the ‘how’ and the why’ are probably more important.

“Brian and Feargal have delivered the supreme prizes for Tyrone.”

Logan and Dooher were ratified for a fresh three-year term in December of last year but their decision to step down now paves the way for just Tyrone’s third management team in over two decades, albeit there is no shortage of local options.

Paul Devlin, who managed Tyrone to two Under 20 All-Irelands in the past three years, is an obvious candidate. Several of Harte’s former players have experience at inter-county level also, including Peter Canavan, Enda McGinley and Ryan McMenamin.

Malachy O’Rourke, who has been mooted for a number of inter-county jobs since leaving Monaghan in 2019, could also come into the frame should Tyrone decide to look outside the county.
