The idea of football in Ireland is a fantastic one. This had to be the first sentence because it was that important. Imagine football taking place there. Real football. Not whatever Florida State did.

It seems that the idea of professional football in Ireland is a very real thing, at least according to my close and personal friend Julian Edelman. Julian was kind enough to join me for a chat this week on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel to talk about a variety of NFL-related things (more on that in a moment) and this new project that he has undertaken with Jameson to get a professional football game in Ireland.

Pro American football continues to expand abroad, yet Dublin still hasn’t been officially added to the line-up. A college game was even played in Dublin a few weeks ago, and fans went crazy for it – but Jameson wants more! So, the iconic whiskey brand is teaming up with football great Julian Edelman to bring back Jameson Touchdown in Dublin: an unofficial call for a regular season pro American football game to be played in Dublin, Ireland.

If a regular season pro American football game in Dublin is announced by April 1, 2025, Jameson is going to celebrate the momentous occasion. They’ll reward one lucky fan (over 21) and five friends the chance to win the Ultimate Dublin Experience – complete with flights to Dublin, 3-nights of hotel accommodations, a tour of the Jameson Distillery and a $3,000 gift card to be used towards tickets to the game.

Imagine the NFL in Ireland. We get a billion overseas games these days; I cannot imagine why this has not been seriously explored.

As things relate to current professional football matters though, Julian was glowing with pride in talking about his New England Patriots. He noted that they may have heard everyone talking about the lack of players on their teams and that this could have been why they upset the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

Sunday marked a win for the Patriots which we all, especially Julian, know to be a normal thing, but it was with Jerod Mayo and not Bill Belichick operating as head coach. It is always a difficult thing when you are transitioning into a new era and the Patriots took a very important step forward in doing that.

Edelman noted that it was a gritty game where the Patriots just hung tough and were able to outlast the Bengals in the name of getting the win. He mentioned that this week’s game against Seattle will be a tough test for them and an interesting measuring stick, also likely a nice memory as one of Edelman’s Super Bowl wins in New England came against the Seahawks.

Our thanks to Julian and to Jameson for the time.
