On a clear day, football’s biggest empire is clearly visible across the Shannon. No wonder so many Kerry men have patrolled Clare sidelines
During the Miltown Massacre in 1979, when Kerry dismembered Clare 9-21 to 1-9 in the Munster championship, John O’Keeffe was watching proceedings from the quiet remove of his full-back station.
Forty-five years later, he remembers in the second half turning to one of his teammates and suggesting that Kerry should “pull back a small bit”, although it can be reasonably assumed his words went unheeded.
