Former Limerick hurling panellist Brian Ryan looks set to switch his allegiance to Dublin over the coming months having earned a call-up to the county hurlers on the back of his impressive club exploits with Na Fianna.
Ryan won an All-Ireland SHC medal in 2020 as part of the extended Treaty squad before also playing in the early stages of ’21, but the South Liberties native didn’t feature thereafter for John Kiely’s side as they went on an extraordinary winning run.
Ryan subsequently transferred clubs to Na Fianna in 2023 having made a permanent move to the capital, and his arrival has been one of the catalysts in the Mobhi Road club finally ending their Dublin SHC famine later that year.
They went on to complete back-to-back victories on the domestic front this season before adding a Leinster crown last month, and the powerful midfielder is currently concentrating his attention on Na Fianna’s pursuit of a first All-Ireland club hurling title next month.
Ryan is set to link up with the county squad thereafter and his call-up is a boost for new Dublin manager Niall Ó Ceallacháin, who is also juggling duties as Na Fianna boss, after losing former skipper Eoghan O’Donnell to the footballers.
