Ballyvaughan-Fanore GAA Club, can only field one team of Leaving Cert students and men up to their 40s due to immigration and housing crisis

This Co Clare team has survived economic turmoil down the decades, as local people emigrated for work to England, America and Australia.

Only an enduring passion for GAA has kept its fire burning.

But a lack of people challenges this club’s progress and future. Ballyvaughan is a picture postcard village with a population of around 361.

House prices are high, due to the village being located in the tourist area of The Burren.

These socioeconomic variables mean there’s no prospect of attracting new players anytime soon.
