Bridgerton star Luke Newton attended the premiere of Bridgerton season three, part two at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin’s Smithfield, alongside co-star Nicola Coughlan, and repped Irish design in the process.

Newton has embraced the opportunity to dress boldly for the show’s press tour, and told RTÉ Lifestyle that wearing an Irish designer was at a top priority in the lead-up to bringing it to our green shores.

“I wanted to try and wear as many Irish designers as possible on the Ireland part of the trip”, he said. “It just felt really appropriate and like I could honour that.

“Nic said this is her favourite of my outfits for the whole tour so far, so I’m really pleased to be wearing it. It’s so cool.”

The elegant suit featured a black blazer adorned with pearls and sparkling embellishments on the front, and was paired with wide-legged black trousers, a simple black vest and chunky patent leather shoes with matching embellishments on the front.

Styled by Holly White, Newton has been steadily gaining a reputation for his sleek and expressive red carpet style.

“I’ve loved working with Holly this year”, he said. “Fashion felt like something that felt like worlds away from what I do. I couldn’t really see the link between being an actor and being involved in fashion, and Holly has just really pulled that out of me and sort of given me the confidence.

“And I guess this whole experience of the show has given me that as well in terms of like, yeah, really wanting to explore it and dive into it. And now I really enjoy it. My fittings, I genuinely enjoy. I love working with new designers and exploring all sorts of different designs they’re working on.”

Now in his third season of playing Colin Bridgerton, Newton spoke about how it feels to step into the role of leading man, and what it shows about his character,

“It’s been such a gift that I’ve been able to play a character over three years and he’s so different each season, and really stepping into adulthood this season. We sort of see a change in him at the start of the season, but he’s still got so much to go.”

As for whether or not he’ll get to sightsee while in Ireland, Newton explained how the blockbuster fame that comes with the hit Netflix show can somewhat derail going for a private wander.

“As soon as people find out that we’re there, it becomes like, top security that would go with us”, he said. “There was a couple of moments where I would be able to sneak off. When we were in Brazil I went to the beach on the first day, and it was beautiful. I had to take two security guards with me and they were 6ft 11′, so people knew what was going on, the two big guys standing around.

“But yeah, I’ve seen some beautiful places. Places like towns in Australia I never would have travelled to.”

That said, when the pair move onto Galway later this week, Coughlan plans to step up as tour guide for her home county.

“We have a day booked, we’re filming, she’s taking me around all her favourite spots. I have no idea what the plan is yet. She likes to keep things secret like that, it’s like with the pranks on set, just keep me on my toes.”
