A MAJOR UK homewares shop has purchased Homebase buildings across Ireland as part of an expansion plan.
The Range already has a network of seven stores across Ireland as well as over 200 stores in the UK.
They opened their first Irish premises in Limerick in 2016 and have gone on to open stores in Cork, Carlow, Waterford and Dublin.
And the popular home goods retailer are set to open further stores across Ireland in the future.
It was today confirmed that the retail giant have purchased a building in Laois that that houses Homebase.
And it’s also been reported that a second of Homebase’s eight stores across Ireland has been purchased by the group.
The other Homebase stores across Ireland are located in Drogheda, in Dublin in Nutgrove and Santry, Letterkenny, Navan, Sligo and Waterford.
Staff at the store in Portlaoise retail park have been assured no jobs will be lost amid The Range takeover.
However, a date has yet to be given for the takeover and re-branding of the home improvements store.
At least two other locations are also part of the homeware store’s plans.
Other locations Homebase locations The Range could be set to take over include Sligo and Dublin Nutgrove.
It comes after the High Court approved the sale of “certain assets” of Homebase in Ireland to The Range earlier this week.
Damien Murran and Enda Lowry of Teneo Restructuring (Ireland) Limited were appointed Joint Provisional Liquidators of HHGL (ROI) Limited on November 13, 2024.
The High Court heard on Monday that the Irish provisional liquidators have accepted an offer by The Range for the sale of the assets which provides the lowest risk.
In the move up to 115 of 178 jobs in Homebases across Ireland are potentially salvageable.
The offer discussed in the High Court proceedings related to the Sligo and Nutgrove stores with 50 jobs set to be retained at the premises.
The Range also have plans to acquire UK based Homebase stores with over 100 stores operational across the water.
In Ireland The Range, who sell everything from furniture, bedding, art supplies and DIY supplies, could also be set to acquire three other stores in Ireland that are leased by the UK company.
This would save a further 65 jobs.
