Major boost for thousands of Irish heading to festival as extra trains announced

EXTRA trains have been announced for a big festival taking place next month – but there’s a warning for passengers.

Iarnord Eireann have confirmed that over 50 extra train services to and from Wexford during this year’s Fleadh Cheoil.

The decision was made to ensure more people can access the world’s largest Irish music festival, which is taking place in Wexford town from August 4 to 11.

Over 500,000 people are expecting to turn up at the event, where musicians and dancers from all over the country come together to perform and celebrate Irish heritage.

An extra train from Dublin Connolly will operate every day of the festival to make sure you won’t miss out on the fun.

There will also be shuttle services between Arklow and Wexford up til 11:00pm each day.

Here are the following train services running to and from the festival for those travelling from Dublin on August 6 to the 9.

  • 10:34 Dublin Connolly to Wexford
  • 18:40 Wexford to Dublin Connolly
  • 21:30 Wexford to Dublin Connolly
  • 14:40 and 17:05hrs Arklow to Wexford
  • 13:40, 16:04 and 23:00 Wexford to Arklow

The extra train services for Saturday August 10 are the following:

  • 10:25 Dublin Connolly to Wexford
  • 21:25 Wexford to Dublin Connolly
  • 14:40, 16:00, 17:15 and 18:50 Arklow to Wexford
  • 13:40, 14:15, 16:04, 17:25 and 23:00hrs Wexford to Arklow

For Sunday August 11 the extra services are the folowing:

  • 10:50 Dublin Connolly to Wexford
  • 21:25 Wexford to Dublin Connolly
  • 14:35, 16:00, 17:20 and 18:55 Arklow to Wexford
  • 13:35, 14:10, 17:30 and 23:00 Wexford to Arklow

However, customers are now being advised to book rail services online in advance throughout the Fleadh Cheoil or the Iarnod Eireann app as demand is expected to be high.

During the week of the festival, most scheduled services between Connolly and Rosslare Europort will now only operate between Connolly and Wexford.

For those travelling directly to and from Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort there is only bus services available.

This is to help gardai and event organisers as they are expected to see thousands of people travelling to Wexford Quay.

Public transport services for those travelling to and from Rosslare Europort or Rosslare Strand are the following:

  • On 4th August, the 09:40 service from Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly operates as normal.
  • All other scheduled Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly services will begin from Wexford.
  • Bus transfers will operate from Rosslare Europort and Rosslare Strand to Wexford (before 10:00hrs) and to Enniscorthy at all other times. 
  • After 10:00 those travelling from Rosslare Europort and Rosslare Strand to Wexford can use the TFI LocalLink Route 387 each day.
  • All scheduled Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort services will operate from Dublin Connolly to Wexford only.
  • Bus transfers will operate from Wexford to Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort.

All scheduled Dublin to Gorey and Dublin to Wexford services will also operate as normal.
