Major security alert stood down after gardai received reports of armed man in Dublin

Dublin city street closed off amid reports of serious incident

A major security alert in Sean McDermott Street has been stood down after gardai investigated reports that a man had entered a house on the street armed with a weapon.

It followed a report made to officers that a man was armed with a gun.

This led armed gardai to search a property but no gun was found.

No arrests have been made.

It followed reports of an altercation between a number of men on the street earlier in the day.

There was a huge garda presence in the area with several armed officers on the street which was shut down to the public.

There had been reports that men were seen brandishing weapons in the area.

However when the Sunday World attended the scene Gardai had cleared the area and were trying to control the gathered crowds.

An Garda Siochána had blocked off both junctions at Gardiner street and Cumberland Street North with no sign of the restrictions being lifted anytime soon.

Gardai told us: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident on Seán McDermott Street, Dublin 1. As the response is live and ongoing, An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.”
