Carlow Weather‘s Alan O’Reilly warned that due to a “hot plume” moving up from the South – mercury will hit scorching temperatures of 45C in parts of Spain this week.

He said temperatures of 31C will be seen in England, but Ireland will reach temperatures of 24C to 25C – with the warmest days expected on Wednesday.

O’Reilly said: “A hot plume of air moving up from the South this week will bring temperatures of up to 45c in parts of Spain, 41c in France and 31c in England but Ireland will escape most of it with 24c or 25c likely our highest on Wednesday.

“Holidaymakers, be aware of the heat coming!”

The Spanish Meteorological Agency Aemet has placed Spain on alert from Monday to Wednesday for a combination of sizzling temperatures as well as heavy rainfall.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to exceed 35C in southern Spain – with temperatures hitting 40C in Guadalquivir.

Monday night is expected to be uncomfortably warm – even along coastal areas.

There are orange alerts in place for “extreme” temperatures in Andalucia, Aragon, the Baearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarra, and the Basque Country.

Le Figaro’s La Chaine Meteo warns that some areas will peak at 41C on Tuesday before thunderstorms begin to batter Atlantic coastal areas in the evening.

HEAT HEADING FOR IRELAND

Wednesday is expected to see a continuation of high temperatures with storms expected in western areas.

In Ireland, the weather forecast for the week shows a mix of mainly dry days —with mercury reaching as high as 24C — before a switch to more unsettled weather.

Alan O’Reilly took to X to give his update for the week and said that temperatures could hit 24C this week.

O’Reilly said: “It won’t be too bad the next few days. Monday will be cloudy, it will be a little damp. There will be a band of light showers pushing in from the west, northwest.

“But it’ll die out as they move across the country, generally less than 1 millimetre away from the northwest.

“Better sunny spells on Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will vary so up to maybe 20, 21C past the south and east Monday.

“But 15C, 16C in the further west and north.”
