A MAN in his 50s has died after being struck by a lorry in Dublin city centre this afternoon.
The male pedestrian was hit by the vehicle at the junction of Arran Quay and Church Street.
Gardai and emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 3pm today.
However, the man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The road remains closed this evening as as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination with local diversions in place.
Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to make contact with them.
They are also requesting anyone with dash-cam footage or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to make it available to Gardai.
In a statement a spokesperson said: “Garda at Bridewell Garda Station are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Dublin city centre on Friday, 25th October 2024.
“Shortly after 3pm, Gardai and emergency services responded to a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian at the junction of Arran Quay and Church Street.
“The pedestrian, a male in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
“The road is currently closed, and traffic diversions are in place as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene.
“The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.”
The spokesperson continued: “Garda are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Anyone with mobile phone footage or dash-cam recordings from the area at the time is requested to share this footage with the investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Bridewell Garda Station on 01 666 8200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
TRAGIC DEATH
This latest road tragedy comes after an e-bike user was found unresponsive on the side of a Kerry road in a separate incident.
Ciarán Ó Nualláin, from Mounthawk in Tralee, Co Kerry was rushed to hospital on Sunday but died in hospital.
The 68-year-old has been described as an “absolute gent” in heartbreaking tributes.
Gardai have issued an appeal for information following his passing.
APPEAL
A spokesperson said: “At approximately 12:45 am, emergency services were alerted after a cyclist was found unresponsive on the roadside at Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee.
“The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was riding an electric bike (e-bike) at the time of the incident.
“Gardai are appealing for any persons that were travelling or provided assistance to the cyclist on Caherslee Road and Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee, between 12:20am and 12:50am on Sunday morning the 20th of October, including persons with dash-cam and mobile phone footage, to come forward.
