A man in his 60s has died after the car he was driving struck an electricity pole on the East Wall Road in Dublin last night.
The crash occurred at around 11.55pm.
The man, who was travelling alone, was taken to the Mater Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.
The East Wall Road is closed between the North Strand Road and Alfie Byrne Road while a technical examination of the scene is carried out, and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were in the area at the time, to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
