A 45-year-old man has been brought before the courts charged in connection with a fatal road collision in Dublin which killed a husband and wife on St Stephen’s Day.
John Halpin, with an address in Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, appeared at Dublin District Court this morning charged with four offences including two counts of dangerous driving causing death.
Thirty-nine-year-old Georgina Hogg Moore and her 40-year-old husband Anthony Hogg were struck by a vehicle near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre last Thursday evening.
Ms Hogg Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband was seriously injured and later died at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
It is understood the couple had two children.
John Halpin is also charged with two counts of hit-and-run including failing to offer assistance.
Garda Alan Murphy gave evidence of arresting John Halpin at Blanchardstown Garda Station just after 10pm on St Stephen’s Day.
He told the court that John Halpin made no reply when the charges were put to him.
Solicitor Damien Coffey told the court that no application for bail would be made at this time.
He also told Judge Michele Finan that his client would not be requiring medical attention.
Judge Finan granted legal aid and remanded John Halpin in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday, 3 January.
A woman who was previously arrested in relation to the investigation has been released without charge.
