A man in his 20s who was seriously injured after the van he was driving crashed on a local road near the village of Baile na Sceilge in south Kerry has died.

Gardaí said the man died at University Hospital Kerry where he was later pronounced dead.

Two other passengers in the van escaped injury and did not require hospital treatment.

The crash happened around 5km from the village just before 2am.

The road where the crash occurred remains closed as garda forensic investigators conduct an examination there. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or people who were travelling in the area at the time to contact them, particularly motorists with dash-cam footage.
