Party leader Mary Lou McDonald is set to contest the next general election alongside Ms Boylan, who will appear on the ticket with the party leader in the Dublin Central constituency.
Ms McDonald took to social media to announce that Ms Boylan would be her running mate when the country goes to the polls.
“We’re ready! Honoured to have been selected by Sinn Féin this evening to contest the general election in Dublin Central,” Ms McDonald posted on X.
“Delighted to be joined on the ticket by Cllr Janice Boylan.
“Janice was born and raised in the inner city.
She has spent her entire adult life standing up for ordinary workers, families and our incredible communities.”
Two years ago, it was reported that Ms Boylan vowed to resign from Sinn Féin after the councillor did not get the position as Ms McDonald’s secretarial assistant.
Ms Boylan wrote to her council colleagues in 2022, saying she did not feel “supported, valued or even really respected” in the party.
“The final nail on the head was when I applied for the part-time role in Mary Lou’s office, which would have been perfect for me to feel connected again, supported and wanted,” she wrote. “I would have been able to get back to the councillor I once was in this role.
“However, I was told I wasn’t successful.
“This has only further shown me what my reality has been for two years.”
Ms Boylan said at the time that the decision to resign from the party was not as a result of not getting the job as secretarial assistant.
“My decision to resign is based on numerous promises that things would change,” she said.
“Numerous times I have been humiliated and numerous times the party has failed to support me and, therefore, made my role as a councillor harder than it ever needed to be.”
Despite this, Ms Boylan did not resign and recently ran a successful campaign in Dublin as a Sinn Féin candidate in the local elections.
Now, Ms Boylan has said the reports that she planned to resign from the party are “ancient history”.
“It was a non-story blown out of all proportion,” she said.
“I work hand in hand with Mary Lou to deliver for our communities and we will continue to work hand in hand now to deliver a change of government.”
Ms Boylan added: “Mary Lou is my friend and my mentor, as she is to so many in our party.
“This country needs a new government, and this country needs Mary Lou to lead that new government.”
Ms Boylan said she was proud to have been selected to run for Sinn Féin.
