SHARLENE Mawdsley stepped out in style while attending a KASH Beauty event at The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin’s city centre.
The athletics ace traded her sprint shoes for a gorgeous white ensemble – complete with a beautiful bow around the mid-section.
The night was held to mark the launch of the KASH Aura Skin collection.
Among the other notable attendees were popular content creators such as Louise Cooney, Ellie Kelly, Charleen Murphy, Ashley Kehoe, former Miss Universe Ireland Aishah Akorede as well as former Miss Ireland Pamela Uba.
While Mawdsley is in her off-season from the track, she still posts almost daily training content of her own as she showcases the year-round lifestyle necessary to being a high-performance athlete.
She signed off the 2024 season in style with a victory in the 400m at the Galà dei Castelli meeting in Switzerland on September 9.
Interestingly, she revealed to SunSport earlier this month that long-term she may end up making the 400m hurdles her home.
She had plenty to celebrate in 2024, helping the mixed relay team to bronze in the World Championships and to European gold.
Nevertheless she is considering a switch to another discipline for next season, for which she has already secured the World Championships qualifying time for the 400m.
Mawdsley told SunSport: “I have the standard for Tokyo so that’s definitely something I can look forward to.
“And I think in the next few months I can maybe try new things that I haven’t already done before and see if it works out or not.
“Because there’s obviously time to play with between now and the next Olympics so I think that will be nice.
“When you’re so close to an Olympics, you kind of stick to what you know so it will be interesting to see if we can change a few things in the next few months and see where we go from there.
“I would love to try the 400 hurdles. I don’t know if my coaches are going to agree to that but I’d love to try and see if I was any good.
“I used to do sprint hurdles when I was younger and I used to swap my legs so I suddenly think I can magically run 400 hurdles but we’ll see.”
Asked if she had discussed it with her coaches, she said: “No! This is the exclusive.
“I have said for the last few years that I would like to try the 400 hurdles because the 400 is mentally so tough.
“And I thought if I had 10 barriers in my way I’d always be thinking of the next thing so maybe psychologically it might be a little bit easier but physically it might be a little bit harder.”
PARIS PAIN
The Newport native admitted there would always be some regret about missing out on the podium in Paris in the women’s relay but that the pain of missing out had eased.
She said: “I think it will always be a little bit disappointing because obviously we were so close but we still don’t have anything around our necks to show us that.
“When we realised that we would have won a silver medal from any other Olympics – I think 1988 was the only other Olympics where we wouldn’t have won one – then we knew how special what we had done was and we were in a historical race and at least we can always say that when we look back.
“Just having my friends and family around me was just so important.
“I had ran the fastest I had ever ran in the final so it wasn’t something I could dwell on for too long.”
Asked if she had watched the race back since, she said: “No, maybe one day but not yet.”
