The news was confirmed in a statement by Dublin LGFA, who revealed that Bohan informed its executive committee of his decision.

“These past eight years I have found myself in the privileged position as manager of the Dublin senior ladies team, an incredible group of young women who show such pride in the blue and navy,” Bohan said in a statement.

“I do believe they have changed the landscape of how ladies’ football is played for the better and I am so proud of how the players carried themselves both in victory and defeat.

“This city means a lot to all of us and our games are special. The team and I took all of this on board every time we got the opportunity to represent.”

Chairperson of Dublin LGFA, Joe Keane, said they were grateful for the “professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm” Bohan gave to Dublin during his time as senior manager. “Mick’s pride in the Dublin jersey was evident for all to see.”

Bohan won his fifth, and the county’s sixth All-Ireland senior crown in August 2023 when defeating Kerry in an epic contest.

During his second term as senior manager, he led Dublin to an All-Ireland four-in-a-row from 2017 to 2020, along with two National Football League Division 1 league titles in 2018 and 2021. He also guided Dublin to six TG4 Leinster titles.

Bohan was part of the 2002 senior management team that won the county’s first provincial crown and was at the helm when Dublin qualified for the 2003 All-Ireland final versus Mayo, another historic first for the county.

He acknowledged the contribution of all who offered him assistance over the years, notably the players.

“Every healthy team is player-centred and driven but management-led. You have represented our town and our people with such high values and I will forever be grateful for that. However, I leave in the knowledge that you are in a healthy place. You have been loyal, honest and will carry the standards embedded into you long into the future.

“To sign off, to the captains during my time; Martina Farrell, Sinéad Aherne, Niamh Collins and Carla Rowe – you are special people who carried the fight and the flag and our county will forever be indebted to you.”

Dublin LGFA added: “Everyone involved in Dublin LGFA would like to wish Mick all the very best with his future endeavours. We are also extremely thankful to Louise and the Bohan family for their unwavering support of Dublin LGFA over the years.

“A special word of appreciation also to the various backroom personnel who worked alongside Mick during his eight-year tenure. We are very indebted to everyone who played their part in orchestrating the most successful period in Dublin LGFA history.

“The Dublin Executive Committee will now begin the process of selecting and appointing a new Dublin senior management team.”
