Jack O’Connor has lost one of his Kerry management team after Mike Quirke revealed today that he was stepping down as a senior selector.
The former midfield powerhouse managed Laois during the Covid-disrupted seasons of 2020 and ’21 before joining O’Connor’s backroom upon the veteran manager’s return to the Kingdom.
He duly helped Kerry to the Sam Maguire summit in 2022 – their first All-Ireland title in eight years – but two seasons of disappointment have followed, losing the ’23 decider to Dublin and this year’s semi-final to Armagh after extra-time.7
“I’ve decided to step away from my role with the Kerry senior set-up after three largely enjoyable years,” Quirke confirmed via social media.
“Very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a storied and passionate football community. While I’ll no longer be on the sidelines, I remain an ardent supporter of Kerry football, and look forward to cheering on the team in the seasons ahead.”
