Mira Guinness, the wife of Iveagh Trust chairman Rory Guinness, has died.

Ms Guinness (49) died peacefully after a long battle with cancer. She was described as a “wonderful mother” who “had a presence that could lift the gloomiest room”.

A friend said Ms Guinness was never happier than when attending a tea party with the Iveagh Trust tenants and the couple’s children, Aoife (18), Bea (16) and Aidan (10).

She was born in London to Swedish and Indian parents.

Ms Guinness’s father, Dr Tidu Maini, later became pro rector of Imperial College London.

“She was a great beauty of her generation, spoke five languages fluently, and had a presence that could lift the gloomiest room,” a family friend said.

“Above all, she was a wonderful mother, wife and daughter who touched so many. She’s going to be missed a lot.”

Her husband Rory is the chairman of Ireland’s oldest social housing provider, the Iveagh Trust.

The Iveagh Trust was founded by Earl Edward Cecil Guinness in 1890, and the body now provides more than 1,600 homes in the Dublin area.

Mr Guinness has been a trustee since 1999.
