Vinny Corey took over as Monaghan boss in 2022

Vinny Corey has stepped down as Monaghan manager after two years in charge.

Corey, who replaced Seamus McEnaney as manager in late 2022, brought Monaghan to an All-Ireland semi-final in 2023 which they lost to Dublin.

But relegation from Division 1 was followed by a disappointing exit from the Ulster Championship to Cavan and while they picked up with a draw with Louth and a win over Meath in the group stages they lost to Galway in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final.

Corey’s departure is a surprise as he was expected to extend for a third year after introducing so many new faces over the last two years.

Corey’s exit followed Dessie Dolan’s from Westmeath last week while Derry, Longford, Tipperary and Carlow are all in the hunt for new football managers.
