A murder investigation is under way into the death of a 31-year-old woman following the results of a post-mortem examination carried out on her body.
The results of the examination conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster confirmed that Paula Canty, who was originally from Kinsale and a mother of two, had died due to foul play.
Investigating gardaí have not released the results of the post-mortem examination but it is understood to have confirmed that Ms Canty had been stabbed in the chest.
The body of the woman was found in her apartment at the Belfry on Bridewell Lane in Mallow at around midday on Friday after gardaí had received a call alerting them to an incident.
The apartment remains sealed off after garda technical experts carried out a detailed examination over the past two days.
A second property nearby at Shoulders Lane has also been sealed off for a technical examination.
An incident room has been set up at Mallow Garda Station and a senior investigative officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.
Gardaí have renewed their appeal for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or mobile footage from the Bridewell Lane area of Mallow between 9pm on Thursday and 10am on Friday morning to contact them.
