Courage to attack can win the day

In a recent interview with Greg Allen on the RTÉ Chapters of Magnificence podcast, Sonia O’Sullivan was reflecting on her silver medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Early in the race, around the fourth lap, a gap began to emerge and O’Sullivan found herself further behind than she had anticipated. The trigger that would play a huge role in salvaging her race came from the most unlikely of sources. It was Jo Pavey’s presence next to her at one particular moment that played a significant role in Sonia making Olympic history for herself and Ireland.
