Entries for the new Dublin City Half Marathon went on sale this morning and sold out within two hours.
The inaugural event will take place on Sunday, March 30th, 2025, starting at 8:30am in the heart of Dublin City on O’Connell Street. 12,500 runners were successful in registering for the event this morning, each paying an entry fee of €68.
The Dublin Marathon is a not-for-profit organisation with the fees covering the management, development and promotion of the race.
Some vented frustration at being unable to secure a place with comparisons made to trying to get Oasis tickets.
“We knew there was a demand for another high-quality half marathon in Dublin, and today has shown that to be true as we sold out in a couple of hours,” said Race Director Jim Aughney.
“We are aware too that given the high demand, some users experienced difficulties with registration. We will review this fully and consider options for 2026 entries.”
The course will take runners out of the north of the city and will finish back in the city centre. The event is organised by the team behind the Irish Life Dublin Marathon and Race Series, in partnership with Dublin City Council, the official event partner.
Runners will still have an opportunity to secure places via transfer of places. The transfer window will open from Tuesday, February 21st, to Sunday, March 9th, allowing those who registered but can no longer take part to pass on their ticket.
SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
The Irish Life Dublin Marathon is always entered to capacity and the brand extension to a new race at half the distance has done the same. High demand for a well run race in partnership with the City is clearly there.

The race itself will take place on Sunday, March 30th, only 80 days away. Better get training despite the weather.
