The Omniplex Group is the fourth-largest cinema chain in Ireland and the UK

Dublin’s Rathfarnham is to get it’s first cinema in 70 years, with a five-screen venue to open in Nutgrove Shopping Centre at the beginning of next year.

Omniplex Cinema Group has said it will invest more than €3m in the new development, which will be the first cinema in the area since the closure of the Landscape Cinema in 1955.

The new Nutgrove cinema will offer an “elevated cinema experience”, with each of the five theatres featuring 50 Pullman-style sofas complete with footrests.

This will offer deeper seats, wider armrests, and greater legroom compared to standard cinema seating, offering a more luxurious experience.

The cinema will also have a beer and wine lounge where visitors can enjoy cocktails and other refreshments before or after their movie.

According to Omniplex, the cinema is designed to bring a higher standard of cinema-going to Rathfarnham, appealing to families and film enthusiasts alike.

The new establishment is also set to create 20 full and part-time jobs, boosting employment in the local area.

The Omniplex Group, the fourth-largest cinema chain in Ireland and the UK, operates 355 screens across 44 locations in both countries.

Steven Stocks, centre manager of Nutgrove Shopping Centre, expressed his excitement at the planned development.

“It is a fantastic entertainment addition and a much sought-after amenity that has been missing from our local community,” he said.

“We are also pleased that the cinema will provide new employment opportunities for the local area.”
