Located in Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow, the plan and order point store allows customers to create and design rooms.

They order products in store for delivery straight to their home or chosen location.

Shoppers can create kitchen and bedroom plans and get home furnishing advice.

The focus in these stores will be on bespoke kitchen and wardrobe designs.

While there’s no stock available, shoppers can get home furnishing advice and expertise.

A spokesperson said: “Despite being smaller than a standard Ikea store, 120 sqm has been packed with inspirational and affordable kitchen and wardrobe solutions.

“Customers will find a selection of six kitchens to browse, such as a complete kitchen, including oven, hob, extraction fan and fridge for €2,004.

“Additionally, Ikea will showcase its kitchen fronts and worktops as well as having an appliance studio.

“There’s also a space dedicated to the PAX wardrobe system, with doors, interior organisers, and knobs and handles to help customers build their dream storage solution.”

It’s the fifth store of this type to open – joining Naas, Cork, Drogheda, and St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre in Dublin.

Over the past few months, Ikea bosses have announced major price cuts on over 2,000 items.

The retailer also announced a Friday half price meal deal in its Ballymun store.

But the bargain meal deals will only be around until the end of August.

Cheryl Beckett, deputy Market Manager, Ikea Ireland, said: “Finally we bring a touch of Swedishness to the south-east of Ireland.

“Ikea is so loved by many around here and we’re excited to bring this smaller store to the area.

“We offer a free planning service of beautiful and functional kitchen and bedroom solutions, always at an affordable price.

“We can also help people with their other Ikea purchases, such as ordering a sofa or a wardrobe.”

Marion O’Gorman, from Ardattin in Carlow, was the first person to arrive at the store today, having never previously been to an Ikea, she said: “I’ve seen Ikea on the television, but I have a fear of driving to Ikea in Dublin, and it is so convenient and handy to have it now in Carlow.

“I am building a new house and I wanted to get ideas for the new build. It’s been absolutely fantastic, and I will be back!”
