The popular Boots store in Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport will definitely close on October 31 with the loss of 45 jobs.

A spokesperson for the DAA has confirmed the pharmacy-cosmetic supplier’s contract will end at the end of the month.

“We’ll shortly start works on a reconfiguration of some of the shops in the T1 airside area and this will see the unit currently occupied by Boots being made smaller to accommodate a new corridor, said the DAA.

“We have been engaged with Boots since March about the possibility of keeping the store open beyond the end of its current contract, but an agreement could not be reached that would have kept both parties happy.”

Sadly, staff at Boots are bitterly disappointed stating that the popular store which has been in situ for over 15 years at Dublin Airport is set to close, it is also the most profitable Boots store in Ireland!

However, at the start of September, Boots staff were advised that the shop would close at the end of October next as the DAA would not renew Boots’ lease. They were also advised that the DAA had agreed to lease the store to WH Smith who have a shop next door but wanted Boots store for a new bookshop.

After a meeting with the DAA in late September it was agreed that Boots could stay open until December 31, claim Boots staff, and the DAA was prepared to extend their lease in 2025 on a month by month basis as WH Smith had withdrawn their bid for the store.

However, now it has been confirmed by both parties that October 31 is the final closure for Boots’ lease.  A sad change for passengers in T1 – Boots was the last minute stop for toiletries, small cosmetics, light meds and of course, the popular sandwich, water and fruit or crisps deal!

The DAA spokesperson also noted that there are many jobs available at Dublin Airport and advised the soon-to-be redundant Boots staff to check out vacancies on the daa.ie website.

The DAA concluded: “We look forward to announcing details of exciting new changes and additions to the T1 retail offering very soon and we’re confident that passengers will like what comes next. The Boots store in Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport is unaffected by this change and will remain open.”
