Non-resident investors don’t pay the 41pc exit tax on Irish-domiciled investment funds that’s charged to local investors, Finance Minister Michael McGrath has said, despite Ireland being Europe’s favoured location to domicile increasingly popular exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin asked McGrath in the Dáil on May 22 if Ireland is “an outlier in personal taxation on investments” and if citizens from other EU countries have a tax advantage over Irish citizens when investing in funds domiciled in Ireland.
