There are fears that Dublin’s already gridlocked northside could be subjected to two years of further traffic chaos – because of the building of an offshore windfarm 19km off the coast.

Traffic planners have raised “significant concerns” about disruption to roads across the north of the city because of plans to lay two 35km-long power cables along main roads from Balbriggan to Belcamp, to bring power from Statkraft’s North Irish Sea Array (Nisa) project to the national grid.
