There was a time when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team was seemingly going in the wrong way and fans were starting to question head coach Micah Shrewsberry. Those days are officially over after Markus Burton and company rallied for their fifth win in six games.

On Saturday night, Clemson was the latest team to learn why no one will want to face the Fighting Irish in the ACC Tournament, despite the fact that Notre Dame has almost no hopes of seeing a postseason beyond that tournament.

The Irish trailed 34-31 at the half before outscoring the Tigers (20-9, 10-8) 38-28 in the second half where they shot 46.2 percent.

Markus Burton continued to work on that ACC Rookie of the Year resume with 21 points tonight on 8-of-16 shooting. The freshman tied his season-high six rebounds, had four assists, and added a steal. While some freshmen tend to tail off towards the end of their first season, Burton has now scored 80 points over the last three games.

The win for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is nice, but it’s more the fact that the culture Shrewsberry has said he wants to install, apparently being installed, is what should have fans the most excited for the future.
