A GARDA probe is under way in Dublin after a pensioner died after he was involved in an apparent row with another man.
The man, in his late sixties and from the Kimmage area of Dublin, collapsed on Baggot Street minutes after he clashed with a younger man around 11pm on Monday night.
Detectives are probing if he may have hit his head on the ground during the scuffle.
Gardai responded to reports of an altercation and spoke to the pensioner after arriving at the scene.
But as he made his way to a bus stop along Baggot Street he collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Results from a post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
Two areas in Baggot Street were sealed off by Gardai during today.
One source said: “This is a very unfortunate incident and a man has now lost his life.
“It looks as if there was some kind of scuffle and wrestling going on and then both men shook hands and went their separate ways.
“But the older man collapsed after the incident and later passed away.”
Gardai urged anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai in Pearse Street station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man late on Monday night on Baggot Street Lower.
‘BECAME UNWELL’
“Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly before 11pm following reports of an altercation involving two males.
“One of the individuals became unwell following the incident and was brought to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
“Gardai are appealing for witnesses, particularly those with dashcam footage, to come forward.”
