Omniplex Cinema Group have announced plans to open a five-screen cinema in Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rathfarnham in Dublin in the first quarter of next year.

Omniplex said it will invest more than €3m into the cinema development which is expected to generate up to 20 full and part-time job opportunities.

Rathfarnham has not had a local cinema since The Landscape Cinema on Landscape Road closed in 1955, nearly 70 years ago.

The Omniplex Group is the fourth largest cinema chain in Ireland and the UK with 355 cinema screens over 44 locations in the Republic Of Ireland and UK. Omniplex is fully Irish owned and operated by the Anderson family.

Mark Anderson, Director of Omniplex Cinema Group, said the company’s cinema experience in Nutgrove will see five 50-seater auditoriums offering the latest blockbuster movies.

Steven Stocks, Centre Manager of Nutgrove Shopping Centre, the new cinema will be a fantastic entertainment addition and much sought after use which is missing from the local community.

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, Nutgrove Shopping Centre continues to experience strong demand for space, meeting the needs of our customers. We are also pleased that the cinema will provide new employment opportunities for the local area,” he added.
