A free festival of architecture is taking place across Dublin city and county, including in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, this October.
Open House Dublin, from the Irish Architecture Foundation, will take place over nine days from October 12 to 20.
This year’s Open House Dublin is inviting people to take a second look at familiar places and to consider if they themselves are reflected in the built environment, architecture and infrastructure of Dublin city and county, including in relation to essential aspects such as transport and housing, as well as recreational and green spaces.
Other events include coastal bike tours and guided tours of the historic Sandycove “James Joyce” Martello Tower, Dún Laoghaire East Pier, West Pier and LightHouse and of the redeveloped Dún Laoghaire Baths.
Overall, the programme for 2024 features more than 200 events for everyone to experience free of charge this October.
Junior Weekend events will feature a drop-in workshop for children and teens to discuss their ideas for their local outdoor play-meeting spaces and skate parks, with a particular focus on the outdoor spaces proposed for the Samuel Beckett Campus.
An interactive augmented reality workshop at Marlay House will introduce a mobile phone-based application to display visualisations of park experiences.
Families and children will also have the opportunity to join the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown biodiversity team for a wildlife safari and scavenger hunt in Marlay Park.
All Open House Dublin events are free but booking may be required for some. Booking for ticketed events opens at 9am on the September 19 on www.OpenHouseDublin.com.
