This is the 19th year of the free festival, organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation, and begins with a dedicated weekend for children and families on October 12 and 13.

Some of the highlights this weekend include an interactive architecture workshop at the Work IQ space in Tallaght, and tours of two new age-friendly housing developments at Little Arbour, Templeogue, and Brady’s Court, Old Bawn Way in Dublin 24.

The main programme of events, including tours of buildings, outdoor spaces and residences, will take place from October 18 to 20.

Announcing this year’s programme, Emmett Scanlon, director of the Irish Architecture Foundation, said: “Open House Dublin is our invitation, open to all, to hold a mirror to the county and city and together face what we see.

“I am certain this year, at our nineteenth edition, thousands of people of all ages will go on tours, experiencing Dublin’s architectural marvels and triumphs, past and present.

“From the runway to the greenway, to the harbour to the home, I hope you all join us at this year’s Open House Dublin.”

There will be tours of the newly-built Lark Theatre, Irish Institute of Music and Song in Balbriggan, which was voted this year’s winner of the RIAI Public Choice Award.

Dubliners are also being invited to come to Tivoli Square on Francis Street for free film screenings at a pop-up outdoor cinema, including a collection of 16 short documentaries celebrating the architecture of Dublin.

The series includes The Iveagh Markets, which provides a rare insight into the iconic indoor market in the Liberties.

There will also be a photographic exhibition organised by Friends of the Iveagh Markets and a guided walking tour around the outside, From Tivoli Square to Lamb Alley.

One more inclusive event, taking place on October 20, is an architecture tour by touch, which is a tactile tour for the blind and visually impaired delivered at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI).

A cycling tour of the Dodder Valley greenway and tours of the new Work IQ space are also a part of the festival programme, along with a guided tour of the recently transformed Saggart Schoolhouse Community Centre.

Overall, this year’s programme features more than 200 events for everyone to experience free of charge. For more information visit the official Open House Dublin website.
