The opening night of the Mary Poppins musical at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre was cancelled at the last minute yesterday.

The theatre blamed “repeated delays” with parts of the set being shipped in from the UK due to Storm Darragh.

Last night’s cancelled show has been rescheduled for 6.30pm on Sunday. Bord Gais Energy Theatre explained that anyone who can’t attend Sunday’s rescheduled show is entitled to a full refund.

All other performances of the show are due to go ahead as scheduled, “as it stands”.

In a statement, the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre said: “Due to the impact of Storm Darragh, there have been repeated delays with large parts of the Mary Poppins set being shipped from the UK to Dublin.

“The situation was further worsened by the subsequent closure of Holyhead, making it impossible to deliver the set on time.

“Despite our very best efforts, including extensive contingency planning, we are deeply regretful to inform you that the first performance of Mary Poppins at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Wednesday, December 11, is cancelled.

“To accommodate the audience affected, we have gone to great lengths to minimise disruption by scheduling an additional performance on Sunday, December 15, at 18.30.

“All tickets for the original date will remain valid, and patrons will retain the same seats they originally booked. For those unable to attend the rescheduled date, a full refund or exchange (subject to availability) will be offered.

“Bord Gáis Energy Theatre sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by this situation. Every effort was made to ensure the show would proceed as planned, and this decision was not made lightly.

“We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during these exceptional circumstances.

“As it stands, all future performances of Mary Poppins at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre will go ahead as scheduled.”
