Pair charged with murder of Gerard Kennelly in Co Kerry

Two people have appeared in court charged with the murder of a 44-year-old man who suffered a fatal stab wound in Co Kerry last May.

Kieran Brady, who is 35 years old and from Athey, Co Limerick, appeared before Listowel District Court charged with the murder of Gerard ‘Ger’ Kennelly at Knockanure near Listowel in Co Kerry on 27 May last.

Detective Garda Tim Walsh gave evidence of charging Mr Brady at the District Court this morning with Mr Kennelly’s murder.

The court was told Mr Brady made no reply when cautioned.

His solicitor Pat Mann said an application for bail would be made in the High Court.

He was remanded in custody to appear via video link at Tralee District Court on 6 November next.

Abigail Lynch, 22 and of Woodview Place, Tarbert in Co Kerry, has also been charged with the murder of Mr Kennelly.

Detective Sergeant Tommy Griffin of Listowel Garda Station gave evidence of arresting Ms Lynch and charging her at 5.09pm yesterday evening.

She made no reply after caution.

An application from the State to remand her in custody was granted by Judge David Waters, who also granted an application for free legal aid.

Judge Waters said given the charge he was not in a position to deal with a bail application.

The accused’s solicitor, Padraig O’Connell, said he would be making an application to the High Court for bail.

Judge Waters remanded Ms Lynch in custody to appear again before the District Court in Tralee on 6 November next.

He also directed that she receives any medical attention needed.

Three people have now been charged in connection with Mr Kennelly’s death.
