Troy Parrott wasn’t going to be left out in award season.

The Dublin striker got 2025 to a bright start by picking up an accolade of note during a period when annual awards were been handed out to sports stars across the world.

However, the Irish International’s gong wasn’t a yearly one, rather he was confirmed player of the month of December in the Dutch league.

The AZ Alkmaar fan favourite was rewarded for a brilliant final month of 2024 in which he scored three goals in six games and was key in AZ turning their form on it’s head to go unbeaten across a busy four weeks.

The frontman would obviously prefer silverware, but the accolade is further proof that the striker, who scored 10 league goals this season, made the right choice by swapping Tottenham Hotspurs for AZ and life in the Eredivisie.

“In the Eredivisie, AZ managed to win four times in a row in December, partly thanks to attacking leader Troy Parrott who was in good form,” his club, said, announcing his receipt of the award.

“The Irish striker managed to score in three of AZ’s four matches and scored the winning goal against FC Twente. Parrott also scored a headed goal for the first time against NAC Breda, something he did again a week later against FC Twente. With this, the Irishman also managed to score in three Eredivisie matches in a row for the first time.

“For Parrott it is the first time that he is elected Player of the Month. The last AZ player to win the trophy was in October 2023, when Vangelis Pavlidis was allowed to receive the award.”

The award and more so the goals and the fact Parrott is playing European football may boost his international hopes.

The Dub seems the form frontman but has found himself behind Evan Ferguson in the pecking order in recent international windows and is in competition with the Meath man as well as Celtic’s Adam Idah, Stoke’s Tom Cannon and Plymouth’s Michael Obafemi for a place up the top of the pitch for Ireland.
