A pedestrian has died in a road traffic collision involving a lorry on Dublin city centre’s Arran Quay on Friday afternoon.
The man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene at short time after gardaí responded to the incident around 3pm. The collision occurred at the junction between Church St and Arran Quay, a short distance from Father Mathew Bridge.
The Garda’s forensic collision investigation team attended at the scene on Friday evening. Garda members could be seen seizing exhibits from the scene.
Dublin District Coroner’s office has been informed of the fatality, and arrangements are in place for a post mortem of the deceased man.
A section of the quays was closed to traffic for several hours as gardaí worked on the scene. The road has since been reopened.
Gardaí attached to Bridewell Garda station are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
“Anyone with mobile phone footage or dash-cam recordings from the area at the time is requested to share this footage with the investigating gardaí,” a spokeman said.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Bridewell Garda station on 01 666 8200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
According to the latest data, the man is the 27th pedestrian killed in a road traffic collision in 2024. Up until Friday morning, 143 people in total have been killed on Irish roads this year.
The Dublin incident comes after a man in his 30s was killed overnight in the Beara peninsula in Co Cork. He was the driver of the lone vehicle involved in the incident between Eyries and Castletownbere.
