A COMMUNITY has been left devastated after a popular business announced its “surprise” closure after 46 years.
Marlowe Cleaners in Clontarf, Dublin, will finish trading on Christmas Eve.
In a message to customers, they said the closure may come as a “surprise” to many.
They wrote: “It is with mixed emotion that Jackie and David announce the closure of Marlowe Cleaners Clontarf on 24th December.
“After 46 years of proudly serving our Clontarf community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors.
“We are deeply grateful to our loyal staff who have worked so hard and who we regard as family.
“A big thanks to our customers whose trust you have placed in us over the years.
“Your support has meant the world to us, and it has been our pleasure to help you look your best.
“We understand that this may come as a surprise.
“We want to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly as possible for you.
“Thank you once again for your patronage and for allowing us to be a part of your lives. We wish you all the best and hope to cross paths in the future.”
Meanwhile, a fast food group recently announced its closure.
Bombay Pantry has become a staple for many, serving popular Indian food.
The parent company, Nutweave Limited, called a meeting of creditors on Tuesday, December 10.
The notice said that the company is proposing to appoint Dessie Morrow and Conor Noone of Azets Ireland as joint liquidators.
The team cited “challenging market conditions” that have impacted the hospitality sector.
Bombay Pantry informed customers of their closure on its website.
The restaurant said: “Regretfully, Bombay Pantry has closed as a result of continued challenging market conditions.
“We thank you sincerely for your years of loyal custom.”
In 2022, the company launched a rescue effort, entering examinership before re-emerging from court protection in March 2023.
Examiner Dessie Morrow reportedly helped secure support from creditors and investment from a group.
The group includes long-term stakeholders.
As part of the rescue scheme which was mounted to help save 40 jobs and keep the management in place, there was an agreement from landlords to a deal.
