Seamus Power has seen his odds of winning this week’s John Deere Classic cut into 40/1 from 50/1 with BoyleSports after the bookmaker reported he is the best backed golfer in the field.
With Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schaufelle and Rory McIlroy all out of action this week to focus on their preparations for The Open Championship, a wide-open event at TPC Deere Run sees Sunjae Im head the betting at 14/1 after a tied-3rd at the Travelers Championship and two top-10 finishes in his last five PGA Tour appearances.
Last year’s winner Sepp Straka is also prominent in the betting at 16/1 with the Austrian counting three top-5 finishes in his last seven tour starts, while Jordan Spieth has proven a popular selection at 20/1.
The three-time major winner’s name already adorns this week’s trophy twice, having scored two victories in three years between 2013 and 2015 and the Texas native will be looking to get back in form before trying to regain his Open title later this month.
A field of 156 will tee it up in Illinois on Thursday and punters are hopeful Irish eyes will be smiling come Sunday as Seamus Power looks to card the third PGA Tour win of his career.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “With plenty of the big guns opting to turn their attention to Open Championship preparation, the John Deere Classic is wide-open and plenty of punters are hopeful Seamus Power can pounce on the weakened field and bring up a hattrick of PGA Tour wins.”
