IRISH people have been left very divided after Christmas lights appeared on an iconic shopping street last night – but bosses have revealed the big reason they go up early.
Dublin Town shared a video to TikTok showing the process of putting up the lights.
In the caption of the post, they wrote: “The DublinTown Christmas lights have begun going up.. but don’t freak out, they are not being switched on yet!
“This is by far the biggest thing DublinTown does.
“It takes 10 guys working only at night for weeks to erect Christmas lights on 20 streets in town, so they must start now to be ready for mid November switch-on.
“As with previous years, there is no public event to switch them on but when illuminated they will light up the city with joy for seven weeks!
“What’s your favourite street in town for Christmas lights?”
At the beginning of the video, they show a sign saying: “Christmas lights erected by we are Dublin Town.”
He said: “We are here on South Anne Street, just off Grafton Street where tonight, working with our contractors Fantasy Lights, we are going to be putting up the very first Christmas lights crossover.”
Showing the process, we can see the back of a van filled with a large amount of lights, as people scramble to get the job done.
He added: “Now I know people are going to start giving out to us that it’s not even Halloween.”
He explained that it takes four to six weeks for the lights to be fully erected across all the streets in Dublin.
He added: “We have to start, the crew can only work at night time so they’ve got to start now in order for it to be ready”.
The date when the lights will be switched on is currently a secret, with it being described as “soon”.
In another video, FM104 shared a look at the behind-the-scenes, but people in the comments section were divided.
In the video, the presenter says: “Well, would you believe we’re back here again.”
“Dublin Town have been very busy organising tonight because we are putting up the Christmas lights”.
He can be seen standing beside a large decoration, and adds: “Now before you go on to the comments ‘it’s too early’, it takes weeks to put up these Christmas lights right over Dublin”.
The video shows the lights being installed, making the city look festive.
But not everyone was convinced, as many were divided in the comments.
One person said: “October, takes the good out of Christmas it’s all in supermarkets already, used to love Christmas the good gone out of it.”
Another commenter echoed: “Way too early.”
Someone else said: “It’s never too early whoooo CHRISTMAS X.”
Another person said: “Never too early, Loveee Christmas.”
Meanwhile, the famous Temple Bar in Dublin city centre already has its Christmas lights and trees up.
TikTok user augus.tom took to social media to alert their followers.
In the video, the red brick pub is blocked off and surrounded by decorators from a floral display company.
A giant tree has been set up on the side of the landmark building, as well as twinkling Christmas lights, while Mariah Carey‘s hit seasonal song “All I want for Christmas” plays in the background of the video.
